More than 60,000 people have been granted protection status in Switzerland since the start of hostilities in Ukraine. S protection status allows them to receive social assistance and the right to work.

The financial capacity of refugees will now be taken into account. The cantonal authorities have decided to take into account the income received in Ukraine. This brings the requirements for beneficiaries of protection status in line with those for refugees in Switzerland.

This means that if people with S status withdraw funds from bank accounts in Ukraine or acquire other assets there, these funds should be taken into account in assessing their income.

The only exception remains the car, as it is needed for the return home.
