Touching words from Jurgita Samoskiene, the first chairwoman of the ISHR-Lithuania, a woman who never stands still!

“We, the ISHR-Lithuania team, are ready to help people in their desperation and need, they can turn to us at any time and receive humanitarian assistance to make their daily lives easier. We work tirelessly every day to support them. Human dignity is inviolable, and people and their dignity are our top priority.

Only together, hand in hand, will we win the war and defend Europe”.

On May 8, 2022, a new transport with humanitarian aid from the ISHR-Wittlich Working Group arrived at our ISHR Section in Lithuania.

Every humanitarian aid transport today is especially important for Lithuania, because a small country like Lithuania gives asylum to so many refugees from Ukraine – today the number of refugees is 51,000. But not only Ukrainians from the war zone, also Belarusians and Russians fleeing the Lukashenko and Putin regimes are given asylum so they can live with us in peace and without persecution. Any help from the ISHR helps us to survive here and makes life easier not only for refugees, but also for our poor Lithuanian families, who have been sidelined and forgotten in this chaos.

For about 50 years, the Baltic countries belonged to one state – the Soviet Union. After independence, Lithuania joined NATO in 2004. Tensions with Russia have increased in recent years.

The war in Ukraine is a wake-up call for us, Lithuanians, many of us are afraid of an attack from Russia.

The war in Ukraine is often seen as a kind of preparation time for our own emergency situation – we should make the best use of this time and prepare ourselves.

It is difficult to talk about the future. We are living in difficult times, and no one knows what will happen tomorrow. That is why it is important to live here and now, little by little, to strengthen our own country with patriotism.

Thank you for your solidarity, help and support in these difficult times, thank you to the tireless first chairwoman of the ISHR Wittlich Working Group, Katrin Bornmüller, and thanks to your wonderful team, you have always, over decades, supported the Baltic countries in difficult times.

Thank you to the German section of the ISHR, which understands us so well and know the situation in which the Baltic countries are now. Talking about it and taking all initiatives in solidarity now to defeat this inhuman imperialist war is the best way.

We, the ISHR-Lithuania team, are ready to help people in their desperation and need, they can turn to us at any time and receive humanitarian assistance to make their daily lives easier. We work tirelessly every day to support them. Human dignity is inviolable, and people and their dignity are our top priority.

Only together, hand in hand, will we win the war and defend Europe.
