The Dutch publication NU.nl reports that municipalities across the country are preparing for an influx of Ukrainian refugees in shelters.
This is because the Dutch, who shelter them in their homes, do not want to leave them alone in their homes during the holiday period, nu.nl reports
“Pets, such as a cat, are sent to a special pet hotel for the duration of the holiday, while refugees from Ukraine are sent to a shelter. This is the harsh reality,” said one of those involved in the refugee reception process.
According to the publication, in the regions of West Brabant and Central, locals are asking the authorities whether they can host Ukrainian refugees while their landlords are on holiday.
“There have already been several cases when families who hosted Ukrainians said: I am going on holiday and I do not want them to stay alone in my house,” the weekly said.
This information was indirectly confirmed by the Hollands-Midden Region security directorate. Thus, according to the authorities, Ukrainian refugees have started to appear, who are now returning from their host families. The reasons for their departure vary from “problems between the host family and the guests” to a lack of space.
