ISHR aid transport to Lithuania

Dear friends,

On 30.04.2024 the aid transport from the ISHR Wittlich working group to Lithuania, Pasvalys arrived. The working group ISHR Wittlich under the leadership of Katrin Bornmüller sent the necessary transport to ISHR section Lithuania – where the most necessary things for Ukrainian, Belarusian, Russian refugees in Lithuania and poor Lithuanians are packed. Such aid shipments are always of great value for Lithuania – as we have 91,000 Ukrainians in the country who are still fleeing to Lithuania every day. Although two thirds of Lithuanians live in poverty, the goods are distributed kindly so that everyone gets something. Pasvalys, where the transport is unloaded, is a town of around 15,000 inhabitants, a town with no industry and 25 per cent unemployment, on the border with Latvia, from where the Ukrainians also come to receive the relief supplies. Medical supplies are brought directly to the hospital, nursing home and old people’s home in Pasvalys. Help is requested every day – every transport of aid is accepted with great joy and people are always asking when the next one is promised. The shoes, jackets, crockery and bed linen with towels are the most needed items and are distributed very quickly. ISHR Lithuania has set up a warehouse in Pasvalys, where around 15 volunteers are sorting and distributing the items.

I would like to thank you on behalf of all the authorities in Pasvalys and individual families for your tireless work in packing and loading, for the donations that Katrin Bornmüller tirelessly collects so that these aid shipments reach their destination. We think of you, appreciate your work and spread the name of the ISHR further into the world.

All Lithuanians pray that the war in Ukraine will finally come to an end, now we continue to stand together and thank you for your solidarity.

With love and warm wishes from Lithuania,

Jurgita Samoskiene

Chairwoman ISHR Section Lithuania
