UN UNDER-SECRETARY GENERAL TO VISIT MOLDOVA FOR THE FIRST TIME
Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, United Nations Under-Secretary General, Executive Director of the UN Women Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, will come to Moldova for the first time on June 11-12 within the framework of a trip in East European and Central Asia countries.
Organization representative in Chisinau Marina Vatav said that Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will meet with Moldovan President, Prime Minister, Parliament Speaker and civil society representatives. They will discuss national and world priorities in gender equality, problem of women in Moldova and protection of their rights.
According to her, within the visit, a monument „For bright future“, which symbolizes women who suffered from violence, will be opened in central park of Causeni town. After that, discussions with women and the youth, who faced family violence, will be held to tell about measures that should be taken in such situations.
On Monday, June 12, the seminar „Woman’s way to life without violence“ will take place in Chisinau, where women from different corners of the republic will share their experience in combating violence.

It was created in July 2010 by the UN General Assembly for improving women’s condition and for liquidating their discrimination. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka from the South African Republic is heading the organization since 2013.
