The German Foreign Ministry confirmed the information about the death sentence of German citizen Rico Krieger in Belarus

According to the German Foreign Ministry in response to DW request, the department and the German Embassy in Minsk provide consular assistance to this person and work intensively with the Belarusian authorities in his interests. ‘The death penalty is a cruel and inhuman form of punishment, which Germany rejects under any circumstances,’ reads the response of the German Foreign Ministry.

Earlier, human rights activists ‘Viasna’ reported that German citizen Rico Krieger was sentenced to death in Belarus. According to their information, he was found guilty of several serious articles of the Criminal Code, including an act of terrorism.

According to the data on his LinkedIn page, Rico Krieger is about 30 years old. After graduating from high school, he received vocational training as a mechanic. For three years, the man worked as a security officer in the office of the US State Department in Berlin, then moved into the field of social assistance. In 2021, it follows from the data he provided in the social network, he got a job in the German Red Cross as a specialist in emergency medicine.

As ‘Viasna’ writes, the trial of the German citizen was held in Minsk voblast court. He was sentenced on 24 June.
