On 27 May, ISHR Secretary General Matthias K. Boehning participated in a letter-writing workshop in Berlin, co-organised by ISHR and the human rights organisation Libereco.

The event focused on writing postcards to Ukrainian civilian prisoners detained by Russian authorities and sending letters of appeal to the Russian Embassy.
With about 20 participants, the workshop produced 50 postcards and 60 appeal letters. Special guest Liusiena Zinovkina, wife of a detained civilian, shared insights about her husband’s abduction and confirmed that similar postcards had already reached him, underlining the value of such actions.
The collaboration with Libereco proved constructive, and discussions are underway to replicate the workshop model in other German cities, including Frankfurt. Interested groups will be supported with a package of materials. The ISHR Secretariat is also exploring opportunities to run similar letter-writing workshops in other countries around the world.
Furthermore, the International Secretariat of the ISHR explores the possibility of presenting prisoner portraits on the ISHR website, extending awareness efforts further. The initiative reflects ISHR’s enduring commitment to human rights and solidarity standing firmly with Ukraine.
