Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine: Russian military captures civilians in the northern part of the city of Vovchansk

Until 16 May, the Ukrainian police helped residents evacuate the affected part of the city, but now the Russian military is not allowing people to evacuate or leave the city.

“According to the latest information, the Russian military did not allow the residents to leave: People were abducted and herded into cellars. The first shootings of civilians by the Russian military are known. One resident of Vovchansk tried to flee and refused to obey the orders of the invaders – the Russians killed him”, – said the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko. “Investigators of the Ukrainian National Police in Kharkiv region have opened a criminal case for violation of the rules and customs of war. The evacuation teams of the Ukrainian National Police are still deployed in Vovchansk despite the fierce fighting and are trying to continue the evacuation of the population”.
