Visit to the Hessian State Parliament

On November 20, 2024, as part of the program and internship, interns from the Armenian and Ukrainian sections, together with representatives of the German section, visited the Landtag of Hesse (German: Hessischer Landtag) – the parliament of the state of Hesse. During the meeting, we met and had the opportunity to ask questions to deputies Martina Feldmeyer and Miriam Dahlke (representatives of the Union 90/The Greens (German: Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) party, a left-liberal green political party in Germany) and Max Schad (representative of the CDU/CSU party, also known as the Union, a bloc of center-right political parties in Germany (and previously in the FRG), which includes the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) and the Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU). These deputies advocate for political prisoners around the world and are political godparents of Ukrainian civilian abductees.

During the meeting, an issue was raised that is currently very painful for all participating countries of the meeting: Armenia, Germany and Ukraine – how to counter Russian disinformation in various media and popular social networks, how to equalize, and ideally – to enter the overwhelming majority with a high-quality information field. A number of interesting topics related to disinformation in the media, as well as war crimes occurring in Ukraine and events that occurred during the 2nd Karabakh war were also discussed. The interns asked the deputies questions of interest to them, after which the parliamentarians conducted a tour of the parliament building and talked about their work.
