The number of political prisoners on the list compiled by the human rights center “Memorial” has reached a thousand people, the organization said on Wednesday, February 9. The program to support political prisoners appeared in the center in 2009. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“This is a huge number of people whose lives were spoiled and ruined by politically motivated, illegal persecution by the state,” said Sergei Davidis, head of the program. “There should be no political prisoners in Russia: not a thousand, not a single person, and even more so, an ever-increasing number, as is happening today,” the human rights activist added.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
