Azerbaijani human rights activists appeal to President Ilham Aliyev

Human rights activists have asked the leader of Azerbaijan for the release of prisoners, who are the subject of discussion of Baku’s official website and international structures.
In their letter, they stress the successful work of the head of state in strengthening Azerbaijan, as well as his great contribution to civil peace in the country. Furthermore, the authors underline that there are still problems in the field of human rights that need to be resolved.
The letter reminds that the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, prepared by Eleanor Roosevelt, will be solemnly celebrated around the world in 2018.
“Naturally, the Republic of Azerbaijan, as part of the civilized world, is not excluded from this process. We hope that you will continue the longstanding tradition of signing a pardon for a number of prisoners this year,” write the authors in the letter.
In connection with this date, human rights activists call on the president of Azerbaijan to pardon prisoners who are the subject of discussion of Baku’s official website and international structures. According to human rights activists, this humane step is a great gift for human rights activists, and it strengthens the relationship between state and society, just in time for the upcoming international day of solidarity of Azerbaijanis on December 31.
