We help those whose legs and arms have been torn off by explosions, whose eyes have been blown out and whose faces have been disfigured. People with such disabilities need peace and quiet and individual, direct contact with nature, far away from the noise of the city. A noisy crowd of completely healthy, energetic and loudly laughing people, as can be seen on the beaches of Odessa, is unbearable for them. With the help of well-trained volunteers – psychologists, lawyers, social workers – the “Veterans” association offers the injured and their families support in all matters. Specialised training courses significantly improve the chances of this group finding a new job or access to universities and general rehabilitation.

Therapy includes medical treatment, but also social experiences such as visits to national parks, contact with animals – for example horse riding for the disabled – or fishing or swimming in the sea in small coastal villages. We urgently need a small bus with wide doors and an extendable ramp in order to be able to organise these activities for groups – the disabled and their immediate family members. A bus with up to twelve seats would be ideal. To better understand the need, you should know that, unlike in Germany, many families do not own a car. The income after retirement barely covers the minimum needs of a family.”

A bus suitable for this purpose is already on the market as a TÜV-approved used vehicle for around 20,000 euros. We can use it to give new courage to a number of severely disabled people. IGFM members will also bring this vehicle to its future location in Odessa, and we will see for ourselves that it is being used as intended. Please support this aid with your donation.
