Russian municipal deputy Alexei Gorinov, convicted for so-called “fakes” about the Russian army, is in a serious condition, according to his lawyer: despite an aggravation of his lung disease, prison doctors refuse to treat him.<\/p>\n

On 8 December, Gorinov’s lawyer described<\/a> his condition as follows:<\/p>\n

“Alexei has no strength, even to sit on a chair and talk. Several times he practically fell down […] The doctor comes, measures his temperature, says “temperature 36.7, no treatment is required and leaves”.<\/p>\n

The authors of the appeal to Putin explain<\/a> that Gorinov has “signs of acute respiratory failure, as well as a severe course of the infectious process”. According to them, the convicted municipal deputy needs “hospitalisation and a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic measures, which are impossible outside the hospital, including detection of possible reactivation of the tuberculosis process”.<\/p>\n

As Meduza notes<\/a>, Oleksiy Gorinov is the first person convicted under the article on “fakes” about the Russian army, which appeared in the Criminal Code shortly after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In July 2022, Gorinov was given a 7-year colony sentence for suggesting during a municipal meeting that a minute of silence be observed to honour the victims of military aggression in Ukraine.
