Trump was elected on November 8, 2016 as the 45th President of the United States of America. His blatant racism, sexism, and disregard for human rights paint a grim picture for the future.<\/h2>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I woke up yesterday to the shocking news that Donald Trump had been elected as 45th President of the United States, my home country. \u00a0This man has proved himself to be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/donald-trump-racist-examples_us_56d47177e4b03260bf777e83\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">racist<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/women\/politics\/donald-trump-sexism-tracker-every-offensive-comment-in-one-place\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sexist<\/a>,and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/indepth\/opinion\/2016\/03\/donald-trump-electing-islamophobia-160313104258994.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Islamaphobic<\/a>, as well as to promote war crimes, such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2016\/02\/17\/politics\/donald-trump-torture-works\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">use of torture<\/a>\u00a0and the murder of civilian <a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2015\/12\/02\/politics\/donald-trump-terrorists-families\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">families<\/a>, and has shown support for the <a href=\"https:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/9-terrifying-things-donald-trump-has-publicly-said-about-nuclear-weapons-99f6290bc32a#.5nt8yxtxa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">use of nuclear weapons<\/a>. He has bragged about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2016\/oct\/07\/donald-trump-leaked-recording-women\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sexually assaulting women\u00a0<\/a>and been accused of sexually assaulting at least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2016\/oct\/27\/trump-twelfth-woman-sexual-assault-accusation-ninni-laaksonen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">12 women<\/a>; he has\u00a0made overtly racist comments, referrring to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/9-outrageous-things-donald-trump-has-said-about-latinos_us_55e483a1e4b0c818f618904b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mexican immigrants as rapists<\/a>, and referring to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/video\/2016\/oct\/20\/donald-trump-bad-hombres-us-presidential-debate-las-vegas-video\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">drug dealers as &#8216;bad hombres&#8217;<\/a>. He has gone as far as say he will <a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/videos\/politics\/2015\/06\/28\/donald-trump-mexico-immigration-wall-intv-tapper-sotu.cnn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">build a wall<\/a> along the border with Mexico, will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/video\/2015\/dec\/08\/donald-trump-calls-for-complete-ban-on-muslims-entering-the-us-video\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ban Muslims<\/a> from entering the United States, and would like to bring back the policing practice of <a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/videos\/tv\/2016\/09\/22\/trump-takes-on-race-and-policing-lead-murray-dnt.cnn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8216;stop and frisk&#8217;<\/a>, shown to involve extensive <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2012\/05\/13\/nypd-stop-and-frisks-15-shocking-facts_n_1513362.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">racial profiling<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">How could such a person be elected as the leader of such a powerful and diverse country? Van Jones from CNN theorizes that his election is a result of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/video\/2016\/nov\/09\/trump-victory-a-whitelash-against-a-black-president-says-cnns-van-jones-video\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8216;whitelash&#8217;<\/a> against a black president and a changing country; Michael Moore suggested long before that Donald Trump represented the <a href=\"http:\/\/michaelmoore.com\/trumpwillwin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8216;White Man&#8217;s Last Stand&#8217;<\/a>, and Anthony Burcher from the BBC listed Trump&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/election-us-2016-37918303\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8216;white wave&#8217;<\/a> of support as a reason for his victory. Whatever the reason for this upsetting outcome, we, Americans and the rest of the world, are left to face the consequences.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Obviously, the perspective for the development and direction of human rights is bleak, with someone who has so little regard for women, and spreads so much hate and fear of vulnerable minority groups is given such power and resources to exercise his will. Under normal circumstances, the checks and balances of the American democratic system could prevent him from single-handedly making the drastic and frightening changes he has suggested; however, because both the House of Representatives and the Senate have retained a Republican majority, it is unlikely that there will be much resistance from his own party to his policies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to his plan for his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2016\/11\/09\/501451368\/here-is-what-donald-trump-wants-to-do-in-his-first-100-days\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">first 100 days<\/a> in office, Trump has already promised to begin the construction of the wall on the border,\u00a0target<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-2 fusion_builder_column_1_2 1_2 fusion-one-half fusion-column-last\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;width:48%;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\"><div class=\"fusion-image-element in-legacy-container\" style=\"--awb-caption-title-font-family:var(--h2_typography-font-family);--awb-caption-title-font-weight:var(--h2_typography-font-weight);--awb-caption-title-font-style:var(--h2_typography-font-style);--awb-caption-title-size:var(--h2_typography-font-size);--awb-caption-title-transform:var(--h2_typography-text-transform);--awb-caption-title-line-height:var(--h2_typography-line-height);--awb-caption-title-letter-spacing:var(--h2_typography-letter-spacing);\"><span class=\" fusion-imageframe imageframe-none imageframe-1 hover-type-none\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/humanrights-online.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Donald_Trump_RNC_July_2016-1.jpg\" alt class=\"img-responsive\"\/><\/span><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\"><h5>Source: Ali Shaker,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/m.voanews.com\/a\/3430146.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Voice of America<\/a> via Wikimedia Commons<\/h5>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-4\"><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2016\/09\/01\/politics\/sanctuary-cities-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8216;sanctuary cities&#8217;<\/a>\u00a0which are cities known to frequently protect undocumented immigrants from harsh federal punishments, begin the deportation of two million &#8216;criminal&#8217; immigrants, and suspend immigration from &#8216;terror-prone&#8217; regions. \u00a0What this translates into is the barring of refugees from war-torn countries such as Syria and Iraq, which by virtue of the presence of ISIS will be classified as &#8216;terror-prone&#8217;. It is also seems to entail the targeting of undocumented families which are already some of the most marginalized people in the country, who may be considered &#8216;criminal&#8217; purely on the basis of their lack of legal status. He will turn away those who face death in their homelands at the hands of none other than ISIS itself, and will tear apart families by deporting migrants, not to mention dooming them to lives of even deeper poverty than they find themselves in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>In the face of this, I try to focus on the words of \u00a0Hilary Clinton, who asked us in her <a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/videos\/politics\/2016\/11\/09\/hillary-clinton-concession-full-speech.cnn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">concession speech<\/a>\u00a0to &#8216;never stop believing that to fight for what is right is worth it. It is. It is worth it.&#8217; It is our job to continue to fight for the human rights of all people, regardless of race, sex, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or ability status. \u00a0It is more critical now than ever.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":113,"featured_media":6644,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"slim_seo":{"title":"Implications for human rights under President Trump - Menschenrechte Osteuropa - News &amp; Konflikte","description":"Implications for Human Rights under President Trump Donald J.
