According to an analysis by the Centre for Legal Resources of Moldova (CRJM), in 2024, Moldovan citizens will file three times more applications to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) than the European average.<\/h1>\n

According to CRJM, Moldova ranks 11th among Council of Europe member states in terms of the number of complaints lodged with the ECtHR. In 2024, the European Court delivered 17 judgements in Moldovan cases, in 15 of which at least one human rights violation was found. The most frequent violations concerned the prohibition of torture (7 cases), the right to a fair trial (6 cases) and discrimination (4 cases).<\/p>\n

By the end of 2024, more than a thousand applications from the Republic of Moldova were pending before the ECtHR, of which just over 25% were declared admissible. According to CRJM, from 1997 to date, Moldovan citizens have submitted 17,700 applications to the ECtHR and the Court has issued 616 judgements in Moldovan cases.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
