That doesn&#8217;t depend on the passport,&#8221; Faeser told the German newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>More than a million people from Ukraine have crossed into neighboring countries, the United Nations said Thursday. People from other countries who already had a permanent right of residence in Ukraine bring this status with them,&#8221; Faeser said.<\/p>\n<p>She explained that people fleeing from Ukraine would not have to\u00a0go through a complex asylum procedure, and said the current cooperation among European nations to ensure safety and security of Ukrainians was &#8220;historic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"col3 right\">\n<div class=\"standaloneWrap\">\n<div class=\"imgTeaserL video\" data-media-id=\"60948381\">\n<div class=\"mediaItem\" data-media-id=\"60948381\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The European Union on March 3 agreed to approve temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees, while US President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration also granted temporary protection to Ukrainians living in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The European Union directive does not cover students and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/african-students-scramble-to-flee-fighting-in-ukraine\/a-60947768\">foreign nationals<\/a>, many of whom have now safely reached their country.<\/p>\n<p>The condition at the\u00a0border appears to have relatively eased since the first wave of refugees have fled Ukraine, DW&#8217;s Frank Hoffman reported from a border checkpoint into Poland.<\/p>\n<div class=\"col3 right\">\n<div class=\"standaloneWrap\">\n<div class=\"imgTeaserL video\" data-media-id=\"61022867\">\n<div class=\"mediaItem\" data-media-id=\"61022867\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Long traffic jams have eased and more people have quickly entered neighboring countries, Hoffman said.<\/p>\n<p>Still, families remain separated, with people still taking shelter in shopping malls that have been turned into welcome centers in Poland, for example.<\/p>\n<p>In Berlin, with state centers already up to capacity, hotel rooms and churches have been converted into shelters for those fleeing the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/germany-to-accept-refugees-from-ukraine-regardless-of-nationality\/a-61030647\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">dw.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said nationality would not play a role in Germany&#8217;s decision to host refugees fleeing from Ukraine.
