It was established under the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, which was developed back in 1950 by the Council of Europe. <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"ru\" data-phrase-index=\"0\">The ECHR now has 47 judges, they are elected for nine years and cannot be re-elected. Russia joined the Council of Europe in 1996, and in 1998 ratified the Convention. Since then, the protection of the ECHR has extended to Russian citizens. Today we will talk about how this court is arranged and how it works, as well as about what has changed after the adoption of amendments to the Constitution for Russians who, in defending their rights, have reached or will reach this instance.
