1,461 women persecuted by Putin’s regime in Russia<\/h1>\n

A picture of Russian reality on International Women’s Day Of these, 634 are currently deprived of their liberty.<\/p>\n

Today, attempts to regain freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, and the right to participate in the political life of the country sometimes come at a very high price.<\/p>\n

Of these, only 215 are either recognised as political prisoners or included in Memorial’s lists of probable victims of political persecution. 270 women have been charged under various “terrorism” articles. 118 are charged under the article on fake news about the army.<\/p>\n

209 are charged with treason, and 13 with “violent seizure of power.”<\/p>\n

Among all the women in the database, 41 are minors, 31 are students, and 90 are pensioners. 271 are citizens of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The public, processed part of the list<\/a> \u2014 on the website “If There Were No War” \u2014 includes 721 women. In total, 291 names were added to the database in February, and 436 were added to the website. By the end of February, the database contained a total of 11,572 people. But in reality, there are many more female victims of political repression.<\/p>\n

They include mothers, wives, sisters and daughters of political prisoners who do everything in their power to protect their loved ones and help them from outside prison. They include thousands of caring women who write letters and send parcels in solidarity with political prisoners. There are countless stories that need to be told, but it is impossible to recount them all. However, they are not forgotten \u2014 they are being collected and preserved, thanks to the work of our colleagues.<\/p>\n

The project has launched a feedback bot, @enbv_bot. We will continue to share their data and research it.<\/p>\n

The Russian anti-war community now needs a comprehensive list of all prisoners, and human rights activists need to work together to update it, coordinate assistance, and provide objective information about repression in Russia to international organisations. Spring will surely come.<\/p>\n
