Radio Svobody journalist died in Kiev<\/h1>\n

Journalist Vera Hyrych died on April 28 as a result of missile attack by the Russian armed forces in Kiev. Her body was found under the rubble of an apartment building on April 29.<\/p>\n

The missile attack on Kiev took place during the visit of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to the Ukrainian capital on April 28. During his visit, Guterres met President Volodymyr Zelensky and discussed in particular the evacuation of civilians from Mariupol.<\/p>\n

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the missile attack on the capital:<\/p>\n

Immediately after our negotiations in Kiev, Russian missiles flew into the city. Five missiles. And that says a lot about Russia’s real attitude towards global institutions, about the Russian leadership’s attempts to humiliate the UN and everything the organisation embodies, and it demands a powerful response accordingly.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Vera Hyrych has been working for the Ukrainian Radio Svobody since 2018, before that the journalist worked with leading Ukrainian TV channels and did community work.<\/p>\n

Radio Svobody editorial board extended its condolences to Vera Hyrych’s family and said that colleagues would remember her as a kind and bright person, a true professional.<\/p>\n
