A high school diploma is one of the prerequisites for studying at a German university. For those who had to flee the war in Ukraine, Germany has made an exception.<\/p>\n

The good news is that for Ukrainian refugees planning to enter a German university, the conditions have been eased. The novelty concerns those who attended the last year of school in Ukraine and due to the Russian military invasion were not able to pass final exams and receive a certificate, as well as those who began studying at a Ukrainian university, but for the same reason did not finish the first year.<\/p>\n

Admission requirements in Germany<\/h2>\n

According to the rules in force in Germany, only those applicants whose education formally corresponds to the German Abitur can apply to a German university. Since German students study 12-13 years, i.e. longer than students in Ukraine or Russia, it is necessary to “make up” the missing years. In particular, Ukrainians and Russians with a high school diploma have to study an additional year either at a university in their home country or at a pre-university college in Germany, and only after that they are entitled to higher education at a German university.<\/p>\n
